What we install

  • Extra power points in bedrooms, living areas, home offices and kitchens, so you’re not running power boards and double adaptors.
  • Single to double swaps. Turning a single outlet into a double is one of the most common jobs we do.
  • USB and USB-C power points for bedsides, kitchens and offices.
  • Outdoor power points with weatherproof covers for patios, decks, gardens and pool areas.
  • Power for wall-mounted TVs, so the cords are hidden behind the screen.
  • Garage, shed and workshop outlets, including heavier-duty outlets for tools and compressors. See shed wiring.
  • Dedicated circuits for appliances that need their own, such as ovens, cooktops, dryers, air conditioners, spas and EV chargers.
  • Moving or removing power points during a renovation.

When a power point needs replacing

Get it looked at if a power point:

  • is cracked, chipped or loose in the wall
  • feels warm, smells like burning, or has scorch marks
  • sparks when you plug in, or plugs fall out because they don’t grip
  • is a two-pin outlet with no earth
  • has stopped working

If it’s hot, smells or is scorched, stop using it and switch it off at the switchboard if you can do that safely. A dead power point is often a loose connection or a fault further up the circuit. See electrical fault finding.

Safety switches and new circuits

Any new power circuit has to be protected by a safety switch (RCD) under the wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000). If your switchboard has no safety switches, still has ceramic fuses or has no room left, we’ll tell you before we start and give you the options. Often a few new circuit breakers or safety switches sort it out. Sometimes the board needs upgrading. See safety switches and switchboard upgrades.

What affects the price

  • How many power points, and whether they’re on the same visit. Several in one trip works out cheaper per outlet.
  • Access. Single-storey homes with roof access are simpler. Double brick, concrete slab ceilings and second storeys take more work to run cable.
  • Whether the existing circuit can take it or a new circuit is needed.
  • Outdoor or special outlets, like weatherproof, USB or heavy-duty.
  • The switchboard, if it needs safety switches or space for a new circuit.

Tell us where you want them and send a photo of the wall and your switchboard (door open). That usually lets us quote without a site visit.

Power point FAQs

Can you add a power point to an existing circuit?
Usually, yes, if the circuit has capacity and the cable can be run to where you want it. High-draw appliances like ovens, dryers and air conditioners need their own circuit.

Are USB power points safe?
Yes, when you buy a quality brand that’s approved for sale in Australia and have it installed by a licensed electrician. We only fit brands we trust.

Can I put a power point outside?
Yes. Outdoor outlets need a weatherproof cover and must be protected by a safety switch. Near a pool or spa there are extra rules about where they can go. See pool wiring.

Is it OK to keep using double adaptors and power boards?
Power boards with overload protection are fine for low-power gear like chargers and lamps. Don’t run heaters, kettles or other high-power appliances off them, and never plug one power board into another. If you’re relying on them, it’s time for more power points.

Can I replace a power point myself?
No. In Queensland, all electrical work, including swapping a power point, must be done by a licensed electrician.
