How You Can Reduce Usage Over Summer
Anything that heats or cools uses the most power in your home. Items such as hot water systems, pool pumps, air- conditioning, dryers and washing machines can all run your bill high with excessive use.
Electric hot water systems and pool pumps especially should be set up on the off-peak tariffs. The two best options to use are tariff 33 (guaranteed 18 hours out of any 24-hour period varying on suburb at slightly cheaper rate) or tariff 31 (power between 10pm and 7am only and slightly cheaper again).
Alternatively, a timer should be in place to control how often these items are running. In winter months pool pump running times can be reduced from the usual 8 hours plus to around 4 hours run time.
