Step 1 – Find your switch board

The switchboard is usually positioned near the entrance or garage in residential settings. For commercial establishments, it‘s commonly found within the central premises of the building but not necessarily adjacent to the electricity meter board.
Step 2 – Check the circuit breakers
Once you have located the switch board, examine the circuit breakers within the switchboard. These breakers are self-operating electrical switches safeguarding against circuit overload or short circuits.
Look for the Main Switch breaker and observe its width. If it is as wide as one pole, you have single-phase power. However, if it spans the width of three poles, you have three-phase power.
Identifying 2 phase power
Two-phase power is also used in some Australian homes. The identification process is similar to that of single and three phases, except that the main switch will have a width of two poles.
